Every year, a bunch of high school buddies (Towanda HS, Class of 1987) takes a canoe trip down the Susquehanna River which flows past our hometown of Towanda, PA. The event is named Kanoe. The weekend starts off with a Friday night tour of the elegant Towanda drinking establishments (the tour is affectionately known as the "Main Street Stumble"). The trip down the river actually begins early Saturday morning (usually ~1pm) and is a grueling 15 mile epic journey which culminates in an overnight camp at a site overlooking Standing Stone (a huge stone which stands at the edge of the river and is the namesake of the nearby village). To be truthful, the trip is actually more of a "float" than a "paddle". It's not meant to be an athletic exercise - it's actually quite the opposite. It's simply a chance to get together, hang-out, and catch-up once a year while enjoying the fine flavor of Old Milwaukee beer (the official beer of the Towanda locals, and therefore Kanoe) and the beautiful (I'm actually serious about that) scenery of the Endless Mountains of Northern Pennsylvania.
